7 Days of Drama Leads to Easter Weekend Success

Easter Saturday provided early joy for the team with flying two-year-old filly, Yellowstone Beth breaking her maiden in style. The filly has had a boom on her since an 8-length barrier trial win at Toowoomba in March. Named after the Firey “Beth Dutton” from Yellowstone, she showed all that, when only 7 days before when $1.60 favorite at Ipswich she refused to run and put on a bucking display.

The stewards ordered her to go back to the trials before being allowed to race again. On Monday Lindsay and the team were lucky enough to get her in a jump out which she won by 5 lengths and was passed to race.

We nominated her for the 2YO Maiden on Saturday; however, she was the first emergency. But with a stroke of luck on the morning of the race one came out and she was in. With a typical 2YO race there was plenty of drama in the barriers with the babies having to wait almost seven minutes before the starter let them go.

The filly missed the start, but Jake Malloy was able to use her speed to go through the field and take up a position outside the leader. In the home straight Malloy balanced her up and she powered away to win by 2.8 lengths.

“It’s been a very big week for this filly, and I couldn’t have been any more impressed with her. We will give her an easy week as there is a nice race for her in late April. “We are then going to aim for the $100,000 2YO Classic in Townsville. “Said Lindsay Hatch.

Cosmic Gossip was also a great run on the day when running second in the Cup at Gatton. The mare really hit the line hard to just go down by only 0.4 lengths. She is doing very well.
