Successful Weekend at Magic Millions Sales

The team had a very busy weekend at the Magic Millions Sales running our eyes over a big list of horses. It was also a huge effort from Lindsay Hatch clocking up over 5km walking around the sales only 3.5 weeks following his hip replacement. (Well, that was his estimate). We started with a list of approximately 20 yearlings but after our inspections and vet reports that list was down to only 6 horses, that we were going to have a go at purchasing. The prices were red hot this year and it was pretty hard to predict the prices that they were going for. Horses that we thought had pretty average X-rays were fetching over $100,000. On the Sunday we missed out on two that we were interested in as the prices were just too high. We had to be patient! However, the 3^rd last horse to go through the auction we were able to get.

Nicconi x Domitta Filly

We were very happy to get her as she is a very athletic Filly. She is both QTIS and BOBS registered and can race in the Magic Millions Series. Nicconi was the winner of the Group 1 Lightning Stakes and is the Sire of The World’s Highest Rated Sprinter in Nature Strip. Her Dam Domitilla (by Strategic) was a winner of three races and has already produced a Stakes Winner in Sylpheed along with four other winners.

Nicconi’s crossed with a Strategic Dam are a very successful Nick at just under 80% winners to runners.

On the last day of the sales, we had 3 horses we were keen to bid on. We were absolutely over the moon to have been able to purchase Lindsay Hatch’s number one pick for the sales.

Capitalist x Reef Knot

Lindsay really wanted a Capitalist as they are Australia’s leading Second Season Sire in 21-22 by winners and 22-23 Leading Third Season Sire. However, it was the fact that Lindsay used to train Reef Knot was the main reason. “She was a good tough mare the dam, and Kenmore Lodge says this filly is showing the same toughness” says Hatch.

“Capitalist was the first colt to ever win the Magic Millions, Golden Slipper and Breeders Plate and Reef Knot was a winner of four races and a Half Sister to multiple Group Winner in Spanish Reef.” says John Horan.

They are both Magic Millions, QTIS and BOBS qualified but as a Filly they run for higher bonuses, and in Queensland they now run for large QTIS prizemoney for their entire careers. (Not just as 2YO’s and 3YO’s).

It was great to have such a large group of owners join us over the weekend and to soak up the Sales experience. We even had a visit by Gerry Harvey to our table.
